Beijing International Forum for People to People Friendship raised its curtain on Sep. 6th, 2011. Ms. Li Xiaoqiang, standing deputy chairman of Beijing People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries(BPAFFC), chaired the opening ceremony. BPAFFC chairman Mr. Zhao Jiaqi, former prime minister of Italy and former president of European Union, Mr. Romano Prodi, director of the division of DPADM under the UN, Ms, Qian Haiyan, and vice president of Chinese people’s institute of foreign affairs (CPIFA), Mr. Cheng Tao delivered a speech respectively. CPIFA awarded the People to People Friendship Contribution Prize to Mr. Li Ruohong, chairman of the China World Peace Foundation and vice chairman of BPAFFC, singing highly of the outstanding contribution that Mr. Li has made to enhancing international exchanges and cooperation. After the prize awarding ceremony, vice chairman of the standing committee of the 10th Chinese People’s Congress, Ms. He Luli, together with other distinguished guests kicked off the opening ceremony of the forum.

On the morning of Sep. 7th, representatives of the distinguished guests delivered speeches on the forum. The president of NPO, Tokyo Japan-China Friendship Association, Mr. Utsunomiya Tokuichiro, and Secretary General of the Paris France-China Friendship Association, Ms. Lisette Le Texier introduced their associations’ friendly exchanges with their Chinese counterparts respectively. CWPF Chairman Mr. Li Ruohong’s Keynote Speech-Chinese NGO is the New Impetus to Build a World City caused great repercussion among the audience with his unique understanding of the NGO, substantial examples and vivid explanation of his opinions. During the break of and after the forum, many participants asked for his book-NGOs in China, expressing their hope to learn from CWPF about the operation module and experience relating to the public interest activities. They also discussed on the great role and remarkable significance of NGOs in the international community in a friendly atmosphere.
